Alex Hirsch

Architectural Glass & Fine Art

Glass Commissions

Alex Hirsch translates her studio-based painting practice into glass for site-specific commissions. The medium of glass offers permanence, beauty, and particular visual intrigue, while transmitted light provides both physiological calm and psychological uplift. Her glass commissions are installed in schools, universities, hospitals, civic entities, and corporations. She views commissioned work as an opportunity for service and meaningful connection with communities.

Hirsch aspires to further collaborations that create immersive environments through the interplay of light and glass. She welcomes opportunities to work with new materials. Spaces for reflection particularly captivate her interest.

Alex Hirsch’s work creates intimate atmospheres that distinctly evoke the essence of place and a sense of spiritual presence. She transmutes her sensitivity to visual, energetic, and somatic stimuli into form. Grounded in materiality yet oriented toward transcendence, her practice seeks to offer moments of hopeful wonder.

Alex Hirsch’s glasswork pushes and extends the traditional range of expression for glass. She captured the vibrancy and sensitivity of her watercolors and the luminosity of glass, and created something truly unique, exquisite and spectacular.”

—Horatio Hung-Yun Law, Artist and former Professor of Art

I design each project with the specific community, site, building code, budget and viewer in mind. I am honored to create art that innumerable people will experience over time, particularly individuals who would not seek art on their own. My process requires a combination of creative intuition, artistic skill, analytical thinking, and organizational management. I oversee the big picture and countless details.

I love working on large scale projects and collaborating with others including architects, public art administrators, private clients, interior designers, general contractors, fabricators, engineers, and lighting designers. Our collective expertise makes so much possible.
